Why Put Up With Spider Veins?
Vein Removal is Normally Swift and Painless

Summer’s over, and you’re already wrapped up in the autumn social scene. Did the sun bring out any blemishes you want to get rid of? Did you — like many others – develop spider veins on your legs and face from the sun?

Now’s a good time to bring your face and body up to indoor standards, in anticipation of holiday festivities.

FACTS:

  • Spider veins are more common in women than men.

  • About half the adult female population develops spider veins.
Before
After

They happen for many reasons:

  • Sun exposure (especially in fair-skinned women)
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormonal changes
  • Weight gain
  • Birth control pills
  • Menopause
  • Hormone therapy
  • Constricted clothing
  • Prolonged sitting or standing

Get Rid of Them
Whatever the cause, there’s no reason to put up with spider veins. Medical science has made them unnecessary. We use the gold standard treatment for spider veins, sclerotherapy (injections) to give you permanent relief.

What’s Sclerotherapy?
During sclerotherapy, we inject a safe sclerosing solution into the dilated vein through a tiny micro-needle. The sclerosing solution causes the vein to blanch (turn white), then gradually disappear by being absorbed into the body over a period of weeks or months.

How Long Is A Treatment?
A typical treatment may last for 15 to 20 minutes and consist of multiple injections.

Is There Bruising?
Bruises around the treated areas usually disappear after the first week. The veins will be fully absorbed in two to six weeks.

Should I Restrict Physical Activities After The Treatment?
You can resume most normal activities immediately. We do ask that you refrain from vigorous activities and hot baths for the first 24 hours, and wear compression stockings for a short period following the procedure.

Can Anyone Have Sclerotherapy?
If you have a history of blood clots in the lungs or legs, you should not have sclerotherapy.

Is It Painful?
Most sclerosing solutions are not painful, but some may cause temporary stinging or muscle cramping at the injection site, as well as swelling or raised areas. These usually disappear within hours, or up to a day or so after the treatment.

Are There Side Effects?
The most common side effects include:
  • Brown lines or spots resulting from leftover iron in the blood
  • Lumpiness due to coagulation of blood in the larger vessels
  • Very fine blood vessels appearing at the injection sites

Most of the time these problems disappear by themselves, with no additional treatment.

How Many Veins Can You Treat In One Session?
In any one session, many vessels can be treated.

What About Skin Types?
All skin types and colors respond to sclerotherapy.

Is It Permanent?
Vein removal is a permanent procedure. The treated vein is gone forever. However, other veins can always become congested and become spiders.

Fortunately, sclerotherapy not only eliminates the visible dilated vein, it affects underlying leaking feeder veins as well. So it’s preventive, in the sense that it reduces your chance of developing new spider veins in the future.

Some Prevention Is Up To You
You can help prevent spider veins. Certain habits promote vein dilation, so changing a few habits can significantly reduce your vulnerability to future spider veins. It’s a good idea to:

  • Move around at work to keep blood circulation going.

  • Take regular walks and exercise.

  • Wear comfortable, non-constrictive clothing.

Do It for Your Health
Spider veins that go untreated can develop into varicose veins.

Therefore, it’s a good idea to treat spider veins as soon as they appear. They’re not just ugly, they can become swollen and painful. Getting rid of varicose veins costs more than spider vein treatment, and requires a longer recovery.

We’ll Guide You
If you aren’t sure how serious your spider veins are, or how to treat them, come in for a free consultation. I’ll give you a complete rundown, and you can decide for yourself whether you’re ready to put this problem behind you.
